The RadioMaster firmware page is available here:  A link to each factory firmware is located at the bottom of this page.

1. Download the Correct Files

  • The RadioMaster firmware page (radiomasterrc.com/pages/firmware-updates) offers firmware and SD card content for various radio models.

  • Downloads are typically provided via Google Drive links.

  • Ensure you select the correct version (e.g., ELRS or Multi-Protocol, FCC or LBT) matching your radio’s configuration.

2. Prepare the SD Card

  • Use a compatible microSD card (typically 4GB–32GB, formatted as FAT32).

  • Before proceeding, back up existing data to preserve your radio settings, models, and custom configurations.

  • If the SD card is not reading correctly or you encounter an “SD Card Warning” on startup, format it as FAT32 using your computer.

3. Extract and Copy SD Card Contents

  • Extract the downloaded SD card contents ZIP file to a folder on your computer.

  • Copy the extracted files to the root directory of the SD card, ensuring the folder structure remains intact.

  • Ensure the firmware file (e.g., firmware.bin) is in the FIRMWARE folder on the SD card.

4. Safely Eject the SD Card

  • After copying the files, safely eject the SD card from your computer to prevent data corruption.

5. Insert the SD Card and Connect Radio

  • Reinsert the SD card into your radio’s SD card slot.

  • Turn off your radio and connect it to your computer via the USB-C port.

  • When prompted on the radio’s screen, select “USB Storage (SD)” to access the SD card or “USB Serials (VCP)” for firmware flashing, depending on your update method.

6. Update Firmware Using Companion Software

  • Download and install the EdgeTX Companion software from edgetx.org for your operating system.

  • Open EdgeTX Companion, select your radio model, and choose the firmware version downloaded from the RadioMaster website.

  • Ensure the channel order (e.g., AETR or TAER) matches your preference and radio configuration.

  • Flash Firmware:

    • USB Method: Connect the radio via USB-C, select “STM32 BOOTLOADER” in EdgeTX Companion, and click “Start Flashing” to write the firmware to the radio.

    • SD Card Method: If the firmware file is already on the SD card in the FIRMWARE folder, boot the radio into bootloader mode (usually by holding the trim buttons while powering on) and select the firmware file to flash.

  • After flashing, power on the radio, navigate to the “Version” menu, and confirm the firmware version matches the one you installed.

7. Configure Radio Settings

  • After updating, calibrate the sticks to ensure accurate control.

  • In the “Radio Setup” menu, verify or set the default channel order (e.g., AETR or TAER) to match your flying style.

  • On startup, address any warnings (e.g., “SD Card Warning” or “Throttle Warning”).

8. Test and Troubleshoot

  • Bind the radio to a receiver and test control inputs with a model or simulator.

  • Troubleshoot Issues:

    • SD Card Warning: Reformat the SD card and re-copy the correct SD contents.

    • Firmware Flash Failure: Ensure the STM32 BOOTLOADER driver is installed using Zadig (Windows) or check USB connectivity on Mac. Retry flashing with EdgeTX Companion.

    • Binding Issues: For ExpressLRS, ensure the binding phrase matches on both transmitter and receiver. Update the receiver firmware if needed via the ExpressLRS Configurator.

  • Regularly back up your radio settings and models to the SD card or computer using EdgeTX Companion to avoid data loss during future updates.

9. Additional Notes

  • ExpressLRS (ELRS) Radios: If your radio uses an internal ELRS module, update the module firmware using the ExpressLRS Configurator or EdgeTX Passthrough.

  • Multi-Protocol Modules: For radios with multi-protocol modules, update the internal module firmware separately using the Multi-Module firmware files from RadioMaster.

  • Factory Reset (if needed): If settings are corrupted, perform a factory reset via the “Version” page in the System menu, but back up first as this erases all settings.

  • Regularly visit radiomasterrc.com and edgetx.org for the latest firmware and SD contents.

Important Cautions

  • Do Not Update Unnecessarily: RadioMaster radios come with stable factory firmware. Only update if you need new features or bug fixes, as incorrect updates can render the radio inoperable.

  • Verify Compatibility: Ensure the firmware and SD contents match your radio’s model and module (ELRS or Multi-Protocol). Mismatches can cause errors.

  • Power and Antenna: Install the antenna before powering on the radio to prevent damage to the internal RF module. Use compatible batteries (e.g., 2x 3.7V 18650 Li-ion for most models).
